Traverse City has received a Bronze rating from the American League of Bicycling, as a Bicycle Friendly Community.
23% of Michigan residents state they participated in some sort of bicycle event last year, and 55% say they bicycle twice a week or more. The annual economic impact of bicycling in the United States is estimated at $5.5 million, with $765,000 of that spent in Michigan.
Matt McCauley, of the Northwest Michigan Council of Governors, said, "Traverse City is becoming more of a transportation option for more and more people in Traverse City.
The TART Trails network currently consists of eight multi-use trails in Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties as well as a cross-town bike route. Approximately 60 miles of regional trails are available in the Traverse City area.
