from an article on M-Live

Holland, Michigan, opened its $11.3 million dollar Ice Park in November, 2025, and the initial season is being hailed as a great success. It was envisioned as a way to make the city a four-season destination. The Park encompasses 14,000 square feet, and incluces an ice skating ribbon, curling rink, fire pits, picnic areas and concessions.

Over the first season, 33,685 visitors booked individual skating sessions and 213 reservations for the curling court.

Almost all available skating sessions sold out during the November to March season. Tickets are sold for 90-minute sessions. There is a 700-foot ice ribbon, and also a semi-circle for open skating. The ribbon is the longest in Michigan.

There were a few tweaks to make things run more smoothly. Session times were staggered to prevent waiting lines for skate rental. More walk-up tickets were made available, and the maximum number of skaters allowed at a time was increased slightly.

The city of Holland is anticipating that the venue will not need to be subsidized but will be financially self-supporting. It is reported that people traveled from all over the Midwest to visit the Ice Park.

from a news article at Fox 17 News

The city of Holland, Michigan will open Phase I of a bicycle park for kids in 2026. The park will feature a pump track, which is designed to help young riders develop cycling skills and have fun in the outdoors using muscle power.

Emily Bierma, Communications and Development Manager for Velo Kids says that kids need to have dedicated spaces that encourage physical activity and risk taking. Velo Kids is one of the collaborators on the project.

The park is to be built north of Unity Bridge in Holland. It will be open year round and will be free to use. Bicycles will be available for those who do not have their own. It connects to the existing skate park and Window on the Waterfront without the need to cross any streets.

The city of Holland, Velo Kids, Park Township and the Outdoor Discovery Center are working together to raise money and to design and build the park.

Holland Ice Park to Open November 14

from the City of Holland and other sources

Reservations can already be booked for the as-yet-to-open Holland Ice Park. This new facility comblines a "skating ribbon," a looped trail, with an open rink for curling. All the ice is refrigerated, so there will be skating throughout the winter, no matter what the outdoor temperature.

The huge facility includes outdoor and sheltered seating, fire pits, restrooms, concessions, and skate rental. Other amenities such as restaurants are nearby. In summer, the area can be used for alternative recreation events. The ice will be open from November 14 through March 15 (somewhat weather dependent in the spring).

The project has been a longtime dream. Major donors include Frank Kraai and the Jim Jurries family.

Reservations can not be booked at the facility, but must be made on line. $10 will get you a 90-minute skate session on the loop and skates. You may use your own skates, but the reservation is still required. The skating loop will be open Tuesday- Sunday, and sessions will begin and end at set times. For example, from 4:00 to 5:30 pm.

To reserve the curling sheet costs more, but up to eight people are included in the reservation.

The Ice Park is located at the edge of Window on the Waterfront Park at the corner of 6th Street and Central Avenue, Holland, MI.

Holland Downtown Will Have Temporary Ice Rink

from various sources

Holland, Michgan, City Council has approved $6000 for the creation and maintenance of a temporary outdoor ice rink, as an experiment. The exact location is still under consideration, but two possible sites are between College and Columbia Avenues, on 7th or 8th St. The other location is Riverside Park.

The money will be used for a liner, 18-inch high boards, brackets, a resurfacer, and other construction needs to prepare the site and maintain the rink. Although the usability of the rink will depend completely upon the weather, Councilwoman Nancy DeBoer calls this an “experiment.” To build a permanent rink would cost in the neighborhood of $1-4 million dollars. This option is a very inexpensive way to test the idea, and gauge local interest.

The temporary rink will be 70 feet by 100 feet. The Council plans to determine the exact location within two weeks, and materials should be on-site in a month.
