Bike Trail to Little Sable Light Proposed

Oceana County Commissioner, Larry Byl, presented a map of a potential bicycle route leading from Silver Lake Road to the Little Sable Point Lighthouse. The distance is just over a mile in length.

Currently, Silver Lake Road has a bike lane, but to reach the lighthouse, a popular destination, is risky. Riders must follow North Lighthouse Drive, which Byl explained is curvy and narrow, with no real options to widen it for non-motorized traffic. The proposed route largely crosses state land, part of the 3000-acre Silver Lake State Park.

Although the plan is conceptual at this point, Chairman Larry VanSickle signed a letter of support for a planning grant to obtain assistance in the design of the trail. No funding has been committed as yet.
